Planful Perform 2019 – It’s, Like, Totally Rad

Planful Perform 2019 – It’s, Like, Totally Rad

Perform is going to be anything but bogus! Where’s the beef? It’ll be in our keynote sessions covering the evolution of life, music, and EPM from the 80s to today…and back to the future. No way? Yes way!

Why have an 80s theme for Planful Perform 2019? Because the spreadsheet, our muse, our rock, our inspiration, turns 40! Yes, that’s right. Did you know the computer spreadsheet was invented by Dan Bricklin in 1978–79. It was originally supported on Apple II, under the program name VisiCalc and expanded to the IBM PC in 1981, just about the time Rick Springfield was looking for Jessie’s Girl. And, we’ll save you the time looking it up: Microsoft released Excel for the Macintosh in 1985 and the first Windows version in 1987. I bet the finance team at Ford used it to ensure the Escort’s spot as the #1 top selling car that year.

As you can probably tell, we’re obsessed with the 80s. The Duran Duran decade brings back a lot of fond memories of our youth. The 80s introduced some of the big themes in TV, music, and movies that have stood the test of time. Take the blockbuster genre. Steven Spielberg, Tim Burton, and John Carpenter led the way with classic movies like E.T., The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Batman.

Music? It’s called the Duran Duran decade for a reason! Don’t forget Joan Jett, Madonna, Queen, Prince, The Smiths, and The Cure, to name a few. The 80s were the start of hip hop, too, with Run D.M.C., Public Enemy, and The Sugarhill Gang all exploding on the charts.

On TV, we had Cheers, The A-Team, MASH, Alf, and Miami Vice. The 80s were the decade that defined our concept of quality TV, music, and movies. Hyperbole, we realize, but forgive us; we love the 80s!

Since we’re clearly stuck in the 80s, did you know the first cell phone shipped in 1983? If you think we’re a bit over the top in our belief that the 80s formed the basis of everything we love today, think of this: the 80s were the last full decade before we all became zombies wedded to a device in our hands, incapable of human interaction due to internet addiction. Let that bake your noodle for a while.

OK, back to Perform 2019. We’re very excited to head to Vegas with you next week and share our love for all things Planful, EPM, and the 80s. Even our tasty keynote sessions all have a bit of an 80s spin. Here’s what our totally tubular execs have cooked up:

Christelle “Punky Brewster” Flahaux, CMO – Everything goes through an evolution: technology, music, brands.  As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the spreadsheet and pay homage (we’re not worthy) to the perfect world of rows and columns, Christelle will be the MC of the event and will help usher us along memory lane, wondering where the boys of summer went and why we’re livin’ on a prayer. And knowing is half the battle. (Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.)

Ron “Sonny Crockett” Baden, CEO – I want my MTV? Nope, we want our EPM! Ron will take a look back at how the EPM Connected Transformation market of today was formed and how Planful took charge. He’ll look at the market trends that shaped the industry, cover some things that didn’t pan out, and look at what’s still in the pipeline for the next few years. Ron’s presentation includes a demo that should definitely not be missed! (Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.)

Mark “The Terminator” Bauer, SVP Products – Mark wants to pump <clap> you up with his dive deep into what’s required to deliver trust, performance, and scalability to EPM customers. He’ll look at the Planful technologies shown in Ron’s demo, review the features delivered over the past year, and even provide a sneak peek at the roadmap for the second half of 2019 and beyond. (Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.)

We’re so excited to see you all at the Aria in Las Vegas next week. Please be sure to follow #HostPerform on Twitter and tweet along with us before, during, and after the event. Don’t forget to join us on Tuesday night for our 80s party at Sage featuring the Spazzmatics (and plenty of snacks and beverages!).

Perform 2019 Travel Guide by Tick and Tie

Perform 2019 Travel Guide by Tick and Tie

We’re back! We’re a week away from Perform 2019 and your favorite Planful mascots (Tick and Tie) are here to give you the lowdown on what to expect in Las Vegas.  We did some exploring, packed our bags accordingly, and are ready to share what you should know before you go!

Where to Stay

We are a little biased here since Perform is being held at the Aria Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. You could probably spend an entire week just sampling the 26 bars and restaurants in the Aria alone. Fun fact: at 4,000,000 square feet big and 600 ft tall, the Aria is the tallest and largest hotel in CityCenter. It’s also the largest hotel in the world to have earned LEED Gold Certification – something we can all feel good about!

Where to Have the Best Snacks

Speaking of sampling bars and restaurants, you won’t have to go far to find world-renowned chefs and mouth-watering bites. Within the Aria there are diverse options – Julian Serrano Tapas provides a taste of Spain, while Michael Mina’s Bardot Brasserie offers a fun 1920s French vibe. Don’t forget to join us on Tuesday night for our 80s party at Sage featuring the Spazzmatics (and plenty of snacks and beverages!).

What to Wear

We are all professionals here, so you can count on us to be in our best business casual at the conference. But watch out at our Tuesday night 80s party and TopGolf event on Wednesday night – we are going to be showstoppers. Bust out your best neon and raddest fanny pack and deck yourself out in your best 80s attire! You’ll be in good company, we promise.

We are so excited to head back to Las Vegas next week for Perform 2019. We’ll be wandering the Aria listening to all the awesome breakout sessions and keynotes all week, so make sure you stop and say hello. We’re especially looking forward to hearing from Doc Hendley, our featured guest keynote speaker, as well as listening to stories from all of the talented Planful customers who will be there! Lastly, we’ve really honed in our best selfie angles this year, so don’t be shy to ask for a picture to post on social. Be sure to tag us using #HostPerform.

Can’t wait to reunite with you in Vegas!
